The family trip to Bismarck without me

This is a story created by my mind game* and is based on scenes from a dream I had on some unknown date**. Because the plot of the dream has been about 95% forgotten but the scenes only 40% forgotten, I've tried to recreate it with my mind game while trying to figure out what to do. The character whom is referenced as "I" is myself as I was in the dream only with the special abilities often used.

As the story starts out, being left out in what I'd call the middle of nowhere and completely lost, the story behind what happened and why I got lost was exciting and sad.

The day before, a Tuesday I think it was, my family was set to take a day-long trip to Bismarck, the capital of North Dakota. Being only a mere 105 miles from it, it was about a one dot five hour drive. The whole family was all set to go, including myself. The whole family was excited to take a tour of the city of about 50,000.

The night, for me, went slow. I kept visualizing what the scenes were like there and what'll happen. I couldn't tell, but only wait until the time. My sense level isn't into the trillions rather, it's less than a hundred making predicting the future a senseless thing to do. I fell asleep at a decent time, however.

When I woke up, the family was starting to load the van up. The van was quite new-looking and of a 1995 model (or something like that, I can't tell car years even to 5 in either direction) and of a dark pine color (approx. 102808). I had a few things to load. However, odd as it was, and with the excitement being flushed down the drain, my parents told me that I couldn't go just at the last minute! I started to argue why but it was of no help.

I went to my room and thought of ways to trick them or work around the problem. The first was to see if I can make a deal that I can handle, but no, they didn't like any of them. The next idea was a bit harder to accomplish. I asked them why they didn't, but they never told me why I couldn't go. I felt so left out. With the easy workarounds being out of stock, I decided to use my secret abilities. I thought, just when the family was in the van and ready to go, I'd use a quick teleport spell to make my items appear inside the van and in a secluded area where you couldn't see my stuff. I had very little stuff so it wasn't a problem. However, I wouldn't be able to pack my drinks as, if I can't be in the van, I couldn't use the drinks.

With everyone already set, while I spied out the window, I initiated my teleport spell and it worked well***, just as I expected. Now, if I can't ride with my family, I might as well glide my way there. After all, gliding can get you there in less than 15 minutes, plus I'd get much more spectacular views from a few hundred feet above the ground.

I called my guardian spirits to work out a plan on what to do now. With the van gone, I was home alone all day, or maybe not. I soon came to a conclusion that, after a few minutes' wait, I go outside and glide my way there. Now, figuring out how to get high enough was another challenge. A mere 90 feet isn't much, but hey, with wise use of gliding, even less than 10 feet of height is enough to climb to outer space!

Five minutes later, I was ready to go, except that I wanted to get a big, long drink. I got my drink, drinking a bit more than expected, then exitted the house. After exitting the house, I jumped onto the roof and walked up to the highest point on the roof. I turned so I was aiming toward low trees. I jumped my full height then used the glide ability wisely to climb to about 1000 feet high. From here, I kept on gliding picking up speed. Since I didn't want to get lost and that the family was going to take 100 minutes to get there, I decided to keep at about 250 mph.

This part was the fun part. The bad part about this, I was unable to figure out if I was headed in the right direction or not. Being off by just 1 simple degree could mean being off by a mile or two, which isn't too bad, but usually, my accuracy is to 2 degrees in either direction. Earth's curvature also made it harder, but it was almost unnoticeable due to the slight distance. To help with this, and since I've been to Bismarck a very few times, I just simply followed the highway as it lead straight to where Bismarck was.

40 minutes later, I was right next to being there. I put the brakes on and slew down to only 150 mph instead. I didn't see the city although I continued to follow the highway watching the horizon for the city to come out of the distance fog. A few minutes later, I spotted the city. I kept at my 150 mph until I was at the city limits. I pulled up climbing just over 800 feet. I got out of my glide and fell to the ground looking down watching the ground "grow" from decreasing distance.

I was already there, and my family was just only half way there. What to do in this extra 50 minutes was a question bigger than how to get to Bismarck. I decided to look around, but didn't really find much of interest. A Pizza Hut restaurant was about the biggest interesting thing as far as I saw. Then, I decided to jump around from building to building. The capitol building was also spotted. I didn't bother to check it out, except from what I saw on the exterior from quite a distance. Although I tried, I couldn't stand waiting anymore.

Suddenly, I realized that a lot more time has passed than I thought. The family should be arriving any moment. I sensed and about the best I could see is that they were right on time just two miles from the city.

One of my guardian spirits told me that they were going to stop at one of the malls there. I didn't find much interest in that, but I decided to go there anyway. However, where the mall was was an big problem. I found a pay phone that had a directory in it. I looked for malls and my guardian spirits pointed to the one they were going to. I noted the address and my position (using street and avenue signs).

I got out of the phone stand and saw where I was. Avoiding the intersection, I followed the sidewalk. I noticed that I was going the wrong way and turned around. Because the intersection had a "don't walk" sign on when I reached it again, I jumped up and glid my way across. Hey, if the sign says, don't walk, don't walk. It doesn't say anything about gliding, plus, there was no obstructions anyway, except standard atmosphere. Because I needed to advance 23 streets from where I was, crossing city center, I just stayed in mid-air trying not to go over 50 mph. When I felt I was close, I stopped over the center of the sidewalk and dropped down. I checked my coordinates and was off by just 1. I went that 1 position then turned right. This was the correct way to go as I was headed in the right direction. I had to cross 39 avenues as I was near the southern edge of the city. I found the very mall at the same time I saw the van pull into the driveway.

I stopped by the van and saw my family get out. They were big time shocked on how I got here. I told them that a spirit took me here because of their meanness. They didn't believe me, and since I had to keep my secret abilities, well, a secret, I told them just what happened with the spirit and I. Strange as it was, even though they were in disbelief, they had to believe it as I somehow got to Bismarck.

The family then took me around and I explored the entire area more indoors and, thankfully, eating at Pizza Hut. I didn't have much fun and would've rather stayed home or played around jumping and gliding. My family eventually, during the evening, took me home with them.

Gliding is a common thing involved with my mind game, dreams, and stories. You basically sort of "fly" but without full control as gravity is converted to forward motion. It's an effective ability mainly for travel or obtaining nice views from great heights. Now, you might be wondering how 10 feet is enough to get you to outer space. Well, let's consider having 20 feet. While gliding in the best position for acceleration and height, you gain 5 mph per second forward velocity and you drop at about 2 feet per second. When you are 20 feet above a perfectly level ground, you take about 7 seconds to pick up 35 mph of speed. Using the distance-acceleration formula, after you pitch straight up and level out before coming to a full stop, you gain about 40 feet. From 40 feet, you can take about 17 seconds to accelerate giving 85 mph. Pulling straight up with this gives you about 250 feet in height. From here, you can accelerate to over 700 mph. Know what I mean? For 10 feet, it requires more steps but still possible.
Street and avenue signs are to help you note your coordinates within a city and to a certain extent outside. For exact details on how to use street and avenue signs for coordinates, read this tip.
