What photos do you have of your 2008 vacation in Minneapolis, MN for September 19?

3 Duluth scenic views
The scenic rest stop is already a big section, but this section involves various other scenic areas I encountered, some of which involving the huge ship and the lift bridge, others general photos, except one of something that is very rarely seen today.

Photo #19-10: Just before reaching the scenic rest stop (see the previous page of this day), I saw this.

Photo #19-11: Bull's-eye! Right smack in the center of this photo (uncropped too), is the lift bridge that big ships pass under. I took this as we headed for a beach near Lake Superior.

Photo #19-12: This is the entrance to the lift bridge. Speed limit 15? That seems unusually low. No passing I could understand (it's quite narrow; given the double yellow line), but just 15 mph?

Photo #19-13: And here's downtown Duluth, at the other side of that lift bridge.

Photo #19-14: When a ship comes through, that bridge goes up, up, and away. Speaking of which, here's one coming, a huge one (carrying coal for coal power plants).

Photo #19-15: Did I go through a time warp going back to the 1880's or something? Horse-drawn carriages are things you don't see any more as all you see now are cars, cars, buses, cars, 18-wheelers, cars, trains, cars, cop cars, planes, cars, cars, 18-wheelers, and yep, more cars. Oh, wait, planes and trains don't belong on the road!

Photo #19-16: I was so close, if it weren't for all those circles (4 made), loop-de-loops (2 made), and even figure-8's (1 made) while trying to find the area (which is well hidden), to get tickets to ride that train (the close one). Reservations were also needed - rats!

Photo #19-17: Any mountain-climbers around? Why not try climbing that rather high hill there lined with numerous factories doing photosynthesis?
4 Lake Superior
There are 5 lakes that make up the Great Lakes: Superior, Michigan, Erie, Ontario, and Huron. I went to the far western edge of the Great Lakes, Lake Superior, and I even went in it a bit. I couldn't swim due to both the pesky law and the fact that the water was quite chilly.

Photo #19-18: Want to go kite boarding? There was someone kite boarding while I was about to go see Lake Superior up close. I likely wouldn't, primarily because I can't swim (I exhaust too easily when I try.).

Photo #19-19: Want to go swimming? Remember, there's that pesky law that forbids it.... Besides, the water is really cold making it not worthy, even though the waves make it look like a lot of fun.

Photo #19-20: Cold water, boohoo! Pesky law, boohoo! Wavy water, yay! It was quite windy here and with high winds often comes big waves. The video shows the water as a magenta color due to a bug with the camera. Here, you can see that it's a kind of a light grayish blue (after the reflection from the sky). The water was actually much more brownish instead when viewed up close.

Photo #19-21: Even though the pesky law forbids swimming, wading is fine, as is this case. A foot deep isn't much, but 5 feet is a different story. Grayish-blue? Looks quite brown here, plus some plant litter. I don't want to get much deeper anyway as the water's rather cold. I intended on doing this with the Mississippi River, but there wasn't any place to do it.
