What photos do you have of your 2008 vacation in Minneapolis, MN for September 13?

Last updated: Sep 27, 2008

Saturday, Sep 13, 2008 was the day I left to go on my first vacation in about 8.1 years. I went all the way from Minot, ND clear to Minneapolis, MN. I do it all in one go, though I do occasionally stop at restaurants, rest stops and gas stations along the way. Unfortunately, taking the wrong road led us to a 90-minute delay and the obtaining of two state highway maps. Some circles, loop-de-loops, and even figure 8's were made (from missing exits or turns).

1 Rest stops

My trip to MN - Devils Lake rest stop

Photo #13-1: We were supposed to take Highway 52, which heads east-southeast, but, no, we took highway 2 which heads east. This was a rest stop around the Devil's Lake area. Being lost, we got a North Dakota map here. The one thing I like about it the most is the floor on the inside. It has a map of the lake and various surrounding areas around my home state's second major lake. I also like the outside design of it too.

Photo #13-2: From having taken that wrong route, we needed a map. This rest stop, of which I don't know it's exact name (I can't make it out in the original 3072x2304 photo, but it's got "exit" in it, likely some highway exit number follows.), was where we got a map for Minnesota. I told mom that, once we got into Minnesota, we'd go to the first rest stop there and grab a Minnesota map. When there, we were told to go to Crookston then head south toward the freeway (I-94).

Photo #13-3: This area seems to need a bit of cleanup, particularly yard work. Dandelions - weeds! This is just one of the rest stops along the way.

Photo #13-4: Let's have a picnic. Hey, lookie there, a picnic table! Then again, with that water there, I don't think it's that good.

Photo #13-5: Swimming is fun, but with water like that, who'd want to? That green slimy-looking stuff looks like a deterrant. Having second thoughts on that picnic?

My trip to MN - Elm Creek rest stop 1

Photo #13-6: The Elm Creek rest stop looks much better, though it's not quite as scenic. There's some sort of walkway there and a hill going quite a ways down, but through a bunch of trees. Wanna go for a walk?

Photo #13-7: This is another area of that walkway. Lookie there! Water, and an overlook! Let's go diving! Oh, wait. That water don't look so good. Rats!
