How was your trip to Wishek, ND?

If you want to understand the blog and how it's laid out, go here.

1 Introduction

On May 20, 2006 from 6:35 AM to 4:25 PM, I was on a trip to Wishek, ND, of which is nothing more than a small community of probably 400 or so, basically a medium-sized village. Along the way, I took several photos. I also kept a very detailed travel log accurate to the minute. The ~ in front of the times indicates a less accurate time due to the lack of an available time keeping device at the time. They are generally accurate to within 3 minutes either way.

2 The travel log

Here's the detailed travel log I kept:

~6:35 AM: Left home;

~6:50 AM: Picked up another vehicle from dad's old work place, a Ford F250 with a semi-dark reddish-magenta interior; Had trouble with seat belt as it was stashed under the seat;

~7:10 AM: Stopped for gas, of which took 8 minutes;

~7:20 AM: Left my home town;

~7:30 AM: Picked up a trailer, of which was to be used to haul a large object - it was an open trailer without the walls and ceiling around it; This took roughly 10 minutes;

7:54 AM: Arrived in Max;

8:10 AM: Reached Lake Sakakawea/Audubon;

8:21 AM: Reached Underwood, ND for a bathroom stop, of which took about 8 minutes;

8:33 AM: Saw a strange brown building, of which my dad says it's a coal power plant and/or coal mine; Only a photo was taken - no stop was made

9:00 AM: Ran into a rainstorm about 20 miles south of Bismarck, ND;

9:15 AM: Stopped at a red light in northern Bismarck - I could barely see the capitol building, the only sky scraper around for over 100 miles;

9:32 AM: Stopped at a rest stop along I-94, of which took only 3 minutes;

9:51 AM: Went to a gas station along exit 182, of which took 5 minutes; Turned south to get back on highway 83;

10:20 AM: Digital camera's battery got exhausted making me lose a photo or two of good scenery - rechargables failed to even work;

10:38 AM: Arrived in Linton for batteries and a turn (taking just 2 minutes);

11:14 AM: Arrived at destination in Wishek; Picked up an old, heavily rusted Model T Ford (or something like that, of an unknown year) and got up up on the trailer;

11:44 AM: Left for returning home;

12:20 PM: Back in Linton for gas at $2.80 a gallon, of which took 8 minutes; Also went to the bathroom, of which I saw harmful graffiti on the walls and objects inside, including a very bad word, [censored] (and no, censored isn't it, it's being, well, censored out), as well as insults - the store clerk was notified about it;

1:13 PM: Back on I-94 again;

1:20 PM: Went through another rainstorm, a bit more intense (about level 3 green on Doppler Radar*);

1:38 PM: Went through Bismarck again;

2:17 PM: Arrived in Washburn to get gas, $2.81 per gallon this time, of which lasted for 7 minutes;

2:49 PM: Reached Lake Sakakawea/Audubon again;

3:32 PM: Entered my home town at last;

3:47 PM: Stopped at a party, now having been about 28 1/3 hours awake by then; This lasted for approximately 20 minutes ending in a search for my mother who couldn't find the area;

4:10 PM: Started heading home at last;

4:25 PM: Arrived at home, unpacked, and went for bed barely even being able to write the daily log for my website for other events during the day;

The news entry headlines in bold are color-coded for a reason. They tell how big the event was for the headlines and how good my day was for the daily entries. From May 2006 onward, a slightly different system is used, of which has triple the precision. For dates prior to this that use color coding, from the white color, skipping two to red and so on is used. Here's what each color represents (for updates to before May of 2006):

Extremely major event / Very good day
Major event / Good day
Somewhat major event / Somewhat good day
Normal event / Average day
Somewhat minor event / Somewhat bad day
Minor event / Bad day
Extremely minor event / Very bad day

Footnotes:
* Doppler Radar is used to indicate where storms are and how intense they are. The colors are based on the local radar coloring scheme which was, in order of intensity, transparent, 6 levels of green getting progressively darker, yellow, fives shades of red (going through the spectrum to red (level 3) then to dark red (level 5), then at least one shade of violet (the worst I've seen). Level 3 green is rather minor. It's only an estimate based on the intensity of the rainfall, loudness, and overall brightness. I'm fairly accurate with estimating the intensity of a storm by being in one.
