What are your video game dreams?
On certain occasions, I get dreams that are like a video game in their nature. Since I was four, I've been at playing video games. I still do today, but less than 1/5 of the hourage as I used to. Occasionally, I get a dream based on a video game, often one that I've played in excess from long ago. Zeliard, Bubsy, and Metroid are commonly focused in these dreams. These dreams are like video games by the way they look and feel. Very often, they are well-forgotten.
Noteworthy dreams in this category:
2-5: I wished this dream would repeat once more as I liked it a lot. It's well-forgotten.
2-9: This dream I find unusual by its nature and I don't understand how I ended up getting this one.
2-11: This dream forecasted the future. Two weeks after the dream occurred, I got views just like the dream showed me.
2-12: I would like to make this dream into an actual game.
2-18: This is the oldest recalled dream to date clear back to 1992 or 1993!
2-19: I wished this dream would repeat once more as I liked it a lot.
2-24: This dream led to the concept and idea for George Game 13, my high-speed do-anything 3D platform game.
2-32: I think this dream occurred more than once.
2-46: This dream suggested a method for the clouds in my first 2D game as, at the time, I was stumped on how to do them.
2-97: This dream is very well-liked and wished I could get a repeat of it.
2-102: I wished that this game was a real game.
2-105: I wished that the game at the end of the dream was a real game. It's also well-liked and I wished it would repeat.

Yet another game with an Atari-like nature, only with some 3D and 2D as well. At first, I was in a store looking around. I see a game in the store that I've long wanted called "jumpman" which had pictures of pool balls on the cartridge. It supposedly was an Atari game. I got some stuff for myself as well, two things I don't remember what they were, and 1 large red lollipop that had a certain shape formed by white lines. I don't recall, however, much about this. When I came home, I hooked up my Atari (I actually don't have one as it broke many years ago) and started playing the game.
In the game, which seemed to be 16-bit color (65,536 colors; The Atari, I think, used 4-bit color (16 colors).). I saw 3D balls that looked high-poly (of great detail and very round-looking). The balls resembled balls from pool (or billiards), only 5 feet in diameter. It was situated inside a large room and you had various objects placed in this room, mostly balls, walls, and boundary markers. There were, I think, 7 or 8 balls and your main ball. The colors seem to resemble the pool balls: yellow, blue, red, violet, orange, dark green, maroon, and black. The colored balls moved and had numbers on them. The black ball had a 13 on it and every hit you had with that ball gave you 13 points. I don't remember the scoring for the other balls, but I think I can recall a 10. These balls moved around randomly. The white ball was your ball.
You had to launch your ball into the pool of the other balls just right and win points from colliding with the other balls. Occasionally, if your ball got trapped, you'd fly in all sorts of random directions and, if lucky, you could easily end up in the jackpot area where high-scoring balls were moving around. You almost couldn't get out of bounds notices in this area. I recall going into this once. I don't remember exactly what was up here, though, besides different balls that scored high.
If your ball, the white one, ended up out of bounds, you lose a try at the game. You had, I think 3 tries at doing this. This game was quite a bit of fun, however, and I'm within reach (well, close to it) on actually making such a game. Though it'll be rather boring as there's almost no user interaction, it's pretty simple and appears to be easy to make.

This is the fourth dream I had featuring the 2D version of Zeliard. Although much has been forgotten, it features mainly the first cavern in the game, the one with the green frogs and snails. All I have known about this dream is that I was in the first caverns of the game, and that's about it.

If you've played classic Final Fantasy games (like from Final Fantasy Origins), you should understand a basic nature of the game this dream featured. If not, the game resembles a few of land as if viewed from the top down. There is no perspective and your character can only go in four directions: up, down, left, and right and without diagonals. The area resembles something like a cave. However, this dream wasn't like a Final Fantasy game. It was more of a regular adventure game. You could see the enemies and you battled them on the screen. I can recall a really long worm or centipede like creature with cyan and yellow-colored body segments that was hard to defeat and was quite strong. You had a health bar at the bottom of the screen and I was often struggling to keep it up high enough. A basic idea of what I saw in this dream would be something sort of like this:

This is a very close approximation of one of the scenes I can recall from this dream.
As the dream was going on, at first, I was trying to find my way through the caverns and using a sword that was two blocks long (a block is a set of 16x16 pixels that the character moves on and can only move between blocks). I went into the cave, found my destination I needed to go to, and started to head back. On my way back, I was struggling with keeping my health up high. I was lingering on the edge of losing a life most of the time. I don't remember how health was restored, however, I can recall it being restored from collecting hearts. I once had one health bar remaining out of about 32 or something. I don't remember much else.

Though I'm debating on whether this is actually a dream or not, I believe it is. I only have one scene recalled from it. In this game dream, I was playing as a small bird. I had to jump from platform to platform on a 2D scroller screen with what appears to be a 16-color display (a really old game). I can recall seeing "stage 730" on the screen. It was this dream that sparked the idea behind my current game project.
Dream 2-25: Bubsy and Sonic put in one

Before I got Sonic back in like 2003 or something, I was playing Bubsy a lot. This dream combines both games into one. I played as Bubsy, but the mechanics were close to that of Sonic (except the falling part as that was more like Bubsy (In Sonic, you constantly accelerate forever until you hit solid land or reach 128 pixels per frame where you suddenly go upwards at high speed, in Bubsy, you stop accelerating once you reach 15 pixels per frame (except when gliding as I've reached 95 pixels per frame with gliding; Note: the screen height in those classic games is 224 pixels, the width is 320.).)). I can recall one area where there was this 1:1 slope ratio slope (a 45° slope). At the bottom and about 256 pixels further to the right was a catapult (like those of Sonic), but I don't remember what color it was. I think it was a red one though. The catapult faced toward the left toward that slope. When I ran into it, I went up the slope then jumped at the last moment to get up really high. At the top, I found a lot of rings (about 16 in 3 rows). The background was of some hills and brilliant white stars (in either Sonic nor Bubsy, there wasn't a background like this). The background was a 32-scale vertical (meaning, if you move 32 pixels up, the background will move just one pixel downward). The background, unlike the classic games, was in true color (the classics use 8-bit color, this seemed more around 16 or 24-bit color). This image shows a basic view of what I saw in this dream in 1/4 scale from the area I can recall clearly:

The circles at the top are the rings (which resemble those in the classic Sonic games), the red thing is the catapult and, of course, the 1:1 slope to the left.
In the dream, I can recall playing with the background trying to "jump toward" something and "get above the stars". That is, when you jump on a game, your character moves up to a certain point and if the character goes beyond that point, the level slides around (causing the background to move). In the dream, Bubsy's feet, upon a regular jump were still a little into the dark blue sky area. There were like 7 or 8 pixels of space below the lower line of stars of Bubsy's feet. To explain better, consider these two images:

The stars in the sky somewhat closely match the ones as I saw them in my dream (though the image has lower quality). The mountains in the background are also closely related. I can't recall the lower part of the scenery so I just made something up: some hills and a flat plain fading to the blackness of night. I do know, however, that the lower part of the scenery was rather dark and I think I can recall some trees, but I'm very uncertain of it. As seen in this image, magnified to double the size, the top part is where I haven't quite "jumped the stars" as notice the feet are below the "star line"? On the bottom image, shifted downward 8 pixels with some extentions on the top, notice that the feet are one pixel above the "star line"? In this case, I could consider that I "jumped the stars".
Dream 2-26: Metroid 3D and the video game store

I was playing Metroid and started a game in the area with the red lava (the one filled with magenta-colored blocks and where the enemies took 10 damage (or 5 with a powerup)). From the starting elevator, I went down and went into the door to the right. I used the damaging jump to destroy the bird-like thing. A few seconds later, I began playing around in the lava, just walking around in it. The dream skips for a ways after this point.
I'm playing a newer of metroid (still a side view, but it's in 16 or 24-bit color). I find this cavern and enter it. The character (unknown name) unlocks a door, goes foward a bit, unlocks another door, goes forward some more, but has trouble with the 3rd door. I wait for some time while the character thinks on what to do. Eventually, a shadow appears behind the door. The dream skips a short bit from this point.
I'm in this 3D room on some land with a river of orangish and yellowish lava which looks very realistic. In this area, you had to jump around across the lave and had no choice but to go in the river of lava. The lava was neck deep! I soon came across some ropes hanging near the ceiling and I manage to jump onto them. I got spinning very quickly and I flug extremely quickly (about 70 mph even). I began this area with 30 as the EN value (whatever EN stands for). The screen layout was much like that of the original Metroid (the only Metroid game I've really played). By the time I reached the ropes, I was in the teens. The dream skips around here.
It's now the video game store where the dream takes place. It's as if I just got done playing the game. I walked around the stores and stuff which were all of one building. There was a grocery store nearby that I went to. I looked around in here and found 2 pennies lying on the floor. I also go outside, which was day, but saw only the ground, which was of roads that cars drive on. One final skip occurs as well at this point.
Toward the end of the dream, I was racing along trying to find the video game store, but had a hard time finding it. I was running along at even 10 mph and it still took 8 minutes to finally find it. The dream ended around here.

If you've played the Bubsy game for the Sega Genesis, you should know what this dream is about. Though, instead of a puny 256-color palette, this dream featured something more of what the modern days have available (16-bit and 32-bit color). However, it's still a 2D game, though it looks quite 3D, especially with the background scaling stuff being very accurate). The scenery in this "remastered" version is so brilliant and beautiful, it's definitely worth playing the game just to look at the scenery.
In the dream, I was in the forest area (levels 13 through 15). In the low areas, there were pools of water around, usually about 96 pixels or so deep being 32 pixels below the main ground. I can recall a scene where there's a small ledge, about 64 pixels above a lower level, and a pool of water just under that ledge.
Near the end of the dream, I plan a way to do a super glide hop (from gliding just when you're about to hit an enemy from a regular fall). The plan was to get as high as I possibly could and jump down a long ways to pick up a lot of speed. I successfully accomplish the super glide hop and fling far above the forest and from here, the scenery looked spectacular and very beautiful. There was greenery everywhere and a bluish fog to enhance the beauty. It almost seemed as if the BG scenery was in true 3D, it was that good. I then went to the beginning area of the level and, at the top of the super glide hop (which gets you 4 times higher), I just let Bubsy fall and boy did he pick up a lot of speed! I can't recall much else, however.
Dream 2-28: Pinball with choice

Pinball has been a favorite game type for me. This dream features an interesting kind of pinball game. The game was in 3D. The top parts, where you normally couldn't access, had white tops. There were 3 sections with a light brownish floor. The left side gave fewer points, but you were less likely to lose a ball. The right side was heavy with scoring, but had a great chance of losing a ball. Also, you could get in the safe zone, the left side, but was rather difficult to do. Much else about this dream isn't really known. However, I do happen to have an image available that gives a simple representation of the game's design.

The area marked on the right is the tough part. It's large, but you can score a hog of points really quickly, but you have a significant chance of losing a ball. The left sides are the easy areas. From the top area on the left, you cannot get into the bottom because of a wall in the way, but you can return to right side without problems. The bottom left is only accessible from launching the ball and you can't get anywhere else with it. Near the top center is a ramp to get between these two sections. The circle is where the "plunger" is, which is used to launch your ball into the field.

As before, the only Metroid game I've played is the NES classic and, to some extent, Super Metroid on the SNES. I've logged several months of total play on the classic version and know much of it quite well, except on what to do in the game. The lava has been a past favorite (and nightmare) and this dream takes this lava concept to a new level (no, not a video game level).
In the dream, I'm playing in the "home area", where you first begin a game where enemies do 4 or 8 damage upon touching them. In this part of the dream, I'm near the beginning area in the same long path that takes you to this multi-colored flashing thing with an E on it. I'm just at the very beginning with that blue door you shoot to get to open. At the beginning of the dream, I was playing in the yellow lava walking around in it without doing much else. To describe what happens next, I'll need to use some graphics to explain it better. The top part is extremely accurate to what I saw in the dream and in the actual game itself, though there are some likely questioned areas and I left out the stats. The colors are quite accurate, though can't recall the exact colors used.

This image is actually two parts. From this point in the dream, I was at position A. I jump to the left carefully and get to position B. Normally, the land at this area shouldn't be there. At this point, somehow, the screen scrolls downward. Normally, this should not happen at all. In Metroid's game mechanics, to switch from horizontal scrolling to vertical, you have to go through a doorway (gives you a hint, doesn't it?). However, under certain, unknown conditions, the NES does end up doing some strange things like faulty graphics and the such. Anyway, realizing the vertical scrolling, I jumped from B and landed in the lava where C is. The land here was gone as usually there is a wall. I walk over toward the left and I see a black abyss. I jump into this abyss and I keep on falling. However, during the fall, I see what the bottom image has. Also, the game palette somehow goes from a basic 4-bit palette (16 colors) to 8-bit (256 colors). The rock texture seemed almost like it was from the Sega Genesis era and it looked very nice. However, while falling, whether in the rocks or not as I was weaving in and out of them, the "health" value was slowly declining, the exact same speed in which the damage by enemies is halved. When you went into the rocks area, you fell about 2 pixels per frame (or the speed you sink into the lava at the fastest) versus about 8 or so (don't remember, it's been too long since I've played it). The area marked with A on the bottom is the area in which you fell quickly. The area marked with B on the bottom is the area in which the rock texture is and the area in which you fell slowly. After about 30 seconds of this falling with that rock texture remaining the same constantly but repeating, the dream ended.

I'm playing the classic Sonic games and I'm playing Mushroom Hill Zone Act 1 as Knuckles. At first, I play normally. This is a 16-bit remake of the level where the colors use the 16-bit palette rather than the 8-bit palette the Genesis games used. The scenery was more realistic for this reason and they behaved more 3D-like. I somehow find a secret underground reservior having greenish water, lots of rhizoids (like roots of a plant, but of fungi) all over, and the water was very deep. The background cannot be seen here, rather just the wall. I don't recall much else, however.
